Tenure-Track Faculty Position in Clinical Science

The Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at the University of Iowa invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Clinical Science at the rank of assistant professor, although exceptional candidates at the rank of associate professor will also be considered. The University of Iowa is home to a highly collaborative and nationally recognized Clinical Science program committed to advancing the understanding, prevention, and treatment of mental health disorders and the promotion of adaptive behavior and health. We seek clinically trained scientists with outstanding, innovative research programs with a strong promise of external funding, and welcome applicants working in any area of clinical science. We are particularly interested in researchers whose work spans multiple levels of analysis and advances mechanistic understanding of psychopathology and behavior. Review of applications begins Monday, September 28, 2026, and will continue until the position is filled. The position begins as early as August 2027.

The Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences has established strengths in a variety of clinical science domains, including developmental psychopathology, aging and neurocognitive disorders, substance use disorders, severe mental illness, and intervention processes and outcomes. The successful candidate will join a vibrant and collaborative research environment with extensive opportunities for interaction across the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the Carver College of Medicine, the College of Engineering, the College of Education, and the College of Public Health. Department faculty have ongoing collaborations with colleagues in such departments as Psychiatry, Biology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Radiology, Computer Science, Otolaryngology, Neuroscience and Pharmacology, Health and Human Physiology, Communication Sciences and Disorders, and Community and Behavioral Health. Our faculty contribute actively to the Behavioral-Biomedical Interface Training Program, our department’s NIH-funded T32 predoctoral training program, that creates unique opportunities for integrative and cross-disciplinary research. Faculty are also actively engaged in the university’s large and vibrant neuroscience community, including the Iowa Neuroscience Institute, an NIH-supported Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Neuroscience, the undergraduate major in neuroscience, and the NIH-funded iDream postbaccalaureate program. Faculty are also active in the DeLTA Center, which brings together scholars across campus interested in learning and development across the lifespan. Iowa also supports a growing community of computational and data scientists.

Researchers benefit from extensive campus infrastructure, including a research-dedicated 3T and 7T MRI facility, a growing investment in neuromodulation and deep-brain stimulation, advanced microscopy resources, clinical and translational research support, and specialized centers focused on neurodegeneration, injury prevention, cancer research, and human genetics.
